The family of the beleaguered former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, has waded into his case with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), following his failure to appear before the anti-graft body on Monday 2 June.
The family is displeased with the decision by the Office to put back the name of their member on Interpol Red Notice, aimed at finding him around the world and extraditing him back into Ghana to answer questions for his stewardship.
The former minister is wanted for his involvements in corruption and corruption related scandals, including his payment of $58 million into the infamous and abandoned national cathedral, a personal promise of former President AkufoAddo.
The family, perhaps, the biggest beneficiary of their member’s work in office, have penned to Interpol’s National Central Bureau and Commission for the Control of Interpol’s files, requesting the removal of his name from the Red Notice, placed last week.
In the statement, the family accused the OSP headed by Kissi Agyebeng of abuse of administrative powers.
Though the statement was not signed, the family at based at 40 Ndabaningi, Sithole Road, Labone with postal address CT442 Cantonments, Accra, accused the Office of four things.
The four are “Deliberate suppression and manipulation of evidence by the OSP; violation of Human Rights, to example right to health; disregard of judicial proceedings and denial of due process; branch of administrative justice.”
Under the caption “The public deserves to know that”, the statement submitted it suspicion of manipulation of evidence to secure an Arrest Warrant dated 11 February 2025. It claimed records at the court showed there was no filing of affidavit.
“To date, the OSP has no charge stated against Mr Ofori-Atta apart from what is stated on the Arrest Warrant as “Using Public office for private profit”. The Arrest Warrant was procured under unusual circumstances, the court records are not clear as to how the OSP secured the Arrest Warrant without a filed affidavit, which is a matter pending in court for which the INTERPOL office at the Ghana Police Service, has been served.”
