The 6th edition of the leading technology conference, Tech in Ghana, which is aimed at bringing together Ghana’s tech ecosystem for global knowledge sharing, valuable networking, and showcasing innovation, has opened in Accra.
The two-day event, which is being held at the Accra Digital Centre (ADC), is organised by AB2020 and supported by the Ministry of Communications and the British High Commission.
Players in the technological industry – both locally and internationally – attended the conference on the first day of opening.
Delivering the keynote address on Tuesday, November 26, British High Commissioner to Ghana Iain Walker said the digital economy provides opportunities that African countries can use to promote growth to reduce poverty and create jobs.
This, he said, can boost the government’s ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ agenda.
He further reiterated the need for collaboration and partnership in the tech industry to enable the easy sharing of techniques and knowledge, emphasising the UK government’s commitment in this regard.
A Deputy Minister for Communications, Vincent Sowah Odotei, who delivered the opening keynote address, said Tech in Ghana has served as a common platform for industry players to engage to make business ideas a reality and create opportunities for the youth, because of the catalytic role it has played as a credible platform since 2017.
He catalogued some notable digital interventions that the government through the Ministry had introduced, targeted at improving the livelihood of the people such as the use of drones to transfer medical supplies to rural areas, the rollout of e-governance programmes and cyber security, among others.
He also echoed the need for partnership between government and private sector to put in place creative and innovative measures that would improve economic and social well-being of the people, especially the youth.
Tech in Ghana is held twice a year – in the United Kingdom during London Tech Week in June, and Accra, Ghana in November.
