Ghana’s digitalization drive received a major boost on Monday Dec. 1 with the launch of the National Investment Bank’s new mobile application and the Ubuntu initiative, a move government officials say positions the country for deeper financial inclusion and a more technology-driven economy.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Mohammed Adams Sukparu praised NIB for what he described as a “significant national milestone,” noting that the launch reflects Ghana’s collective ambition to embrace digital transformation.
Sukparu commended the bank’s board, management, and staff for delivering a platform he said aligns directly with government’s digitalization priorities under President John Dramani Mahama. He noted that the national target is to build a 24-hour economy powered by technology, ensuring that citizens everywhere can access secure and convenient financial services.
“This mobile app is far more than a banking tool,” Sukparu said. “It is a gateway to financial empowerment, allowing individuals and businesses to transact seamlessly, safely, and securely while participating fully in the digital economy.”

He added that the rollout fits into the Ministry’s broader strategy to deepen financial inclusion, strengthen the digital ecosystem, and reduce reliance on cash across the country.
Sukparu also welcomed the bank’s introduction of the Ubuntu initiative, describing it as an important reminder that technological innovation must be balanced with empathy and customer-centered service. While technology drives efficiency, he said, Ubuntu underscores the human values required to make digital platforms truly accessible and trustworthy.
“It is this combination of innovation and humanistic values that is expected to set NIB apart and position it as a trusted partner in Ghana’s economic transformation,” he said.
The Deputy Minister urged citizens, businesses, and institutions to adopt the mobile platform and other digital tools to improve their experience with financial services. He emphasized that widespread use of secure digital banking will be essential to meeting national development goals.
In his closing remarks, Sukparu encouraged NIB to maintain the highest standards of data security, customer care, and accessibility as it scales the new platform nationwide.
Government, he said, remains committed to supporting initiatives that drive Ghana’s digital future and expand opportunities for all citizens.
