The Board and Management of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) have undertaken a tour of selected regional airports to assess operations and identify development needs, the company said.
The tour was led by the Board Chairman, Hon. James Agalga, alongside senior management headed by the Managing Director, Mrs. Yvonne Opare. It formed part of efforts to gain first-hand insight into the condition of GACL-operated facilities and to guide future investment decisions.
The visit began at Tamale International Airport, where the delegation met staff and inspected key operational and technical areas. Officials examined airside and landside facilities, discussed safety and service delivery issues, and reviewed ongoing maintenance and upgrade requirements.
From Tamale, the team travelled to Bolgatanga to inspect a 4,362-acre parcel of land designated for the proposed Upper East Regional Airport. The inspection was aimed at evaluating site readiness ahead of planned construction works.
In Bolgatanga, the GACL delegation was joined by the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga; the Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur; and members of the GCAA technical team. The group engaged with local stakeholders, including traditional authorities and community representatives.
GACL officials used the visit to reassure residents of the government’s commitment to delivering the project, describing the proposed airport as the fulfilment of a pledge made by the President to expand aviation infrastructure in the Upper East Region. They said the facility is expected to improve connectivity, stimulate economic activity, and support regional development.
According to GACL, technical and regulatory processes are currently being finalised to enable a smooth commencement of the project. Further updates will be provided as planning advances.
