The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has issued a strong public warning against a fraudulent message circulating on social and digital media platforms, falsely claiming the launch of a GH₵1,350 National Family Support Allowance.
In a disclaimer released by its Public Affairs Unit, the Ministry said the announcement, which attributes the purported programme to a directive from President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, is entirely false and misleading.
According to the Ministry, no social protection programme known as the “National Family Support Allowance” has been introduced, and no cash support scheme valued at GH₵1,350 for a three-month period has been approved or rolled out by the government. Officials further clarified that the website link attached to the circulating message is not an official Government of Ghana or MoGCSP platform.

“The Ministry hereby strongly dissociates itself from this announcement,” the statement said, warning that the message appears designed to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
The MoGCSP emphasised that all legitimate social intervention and protection programmes are communicated exclusively through verified government channels. These include official press releases, press conferences, the Ministry’s recognised website and announcements carried by accredited media organisations.
Members of the public have been urged to completely disregard the fraudulent post and to avoid clicking on any links associated with it. The Ministry cautioned against providing personal details such as names, phone numbers, Ghana Card information or bank details, noting that such data could be exploited for criminal purposes.
The warning comes amid growing concerns over the increasing use of fake government programmes to lure citizens, particularly vulnerable households, into online scams. Social protection initiatives remain a sensitive area, with fraudsters often exploiting economic hardship and public trust in state institutions.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to transparency and public accountability, assuring citizens that any genuine intervention aimed at supporting families and vulnerable groups would be widely publicised through official and verifiable means.
For accurate and up-to-date information on government social protection programmes, the Ministry advised the public to rely solely on its official communication platforms and verified social media accounts.
The MoGCSP said it will continue to work with relevant state agencies to monitor and address the spread of misinformation related to government policies and programmes.
