Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch) has officially launched its 2026 Annual Education Policy Monitoring exercise, aimed at evaluating the implementation of key basic education policies and interventions outlined in the 2025 Education Budget.
The initiative seeks to generate evidence to improve education service delivery, strengthen policy accountability, promote equity, and ensure effective utilisation of public resources within Ghana’s education sector. Monitoring will cover policies and interventions funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), and the Consolidated Fund.
Eduwatch has deployed policy monitors to ten selected districts spanning both rural and urban areas, including Tatale Sanguli, Bongo, Nabdam, Zabzugu, Adentan, Ga East, Ga West, Ledzokuku, Nkwanta South, and La-Nkwantanang Madina. The monitors will engage district education officials, school leaders, students, local governments, and community stakeholders to assess the progress and challenges in implementing education policies at the local level.
Following the district-level assessment, Eduwatch plans to convene a national stakeholder forum to review findings, discuss emerging issues, and recommend strategies for improving policy delivery and accountability.
The organisation has called on all relevant stakeholders in the targeted districts to provide full cooperation and support, emphasising that the success of the exercise depends on collaborative engagement with communities and local authorities.
Oxfam is supporting the 2026 Annual Education Policy Monitoring initiative, providing technical and logistical assistance to ensure comprehensive and credible reporting.
Through this exercise, Eduwatch aims to hold policymakers accountable, identify gaps in resource allocation, and contribute to the overall improvement of Ghana’s basic education system. The monitoring activity underscores the growing importance of citizen-led oversight in enhancing transparency and equity within public education programmes.
