The Secretary of the Juaben Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Zakaria Abdulai, has resigned from his position with immediate effect.
In a letter dated Tuesday, October 20, and addressed to the General Secretary of the party, Mr. Abdulai also formally withdrew his candidature for the position of Constituency Chairman in the party’s forthcoming constituency elections, also with immediate effect.
The letter, titled “Letter of Resignation as Juaben Constituency Secretary and Withdrawal of Candidature for Constituency Chairmanship,” was copied to the National Chairman of the NDC and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party.
Mr. Abdulai expressed profound gratitude to his friends, relatives and all well-wishers who, according to him, had stood by him and maintained their faith in his innocence in the face of allegations levelled against him and his office.
He also thanked the NDC for the opportunity to serve the party as both a member and an officer, describing it as a privilege to contribute to the growth and development of a political tradition he said he deeply loves and cherishes.
Mr. Abdulai said he intends to devote his attention and resources to pursuing all lawful avenues to clear his name and vindicate his position.
He expressed hope that, once the matters are resolved, he would be able to return to active political engagement and continue contributing to the ideals and aspirations of the NDC.
Mr Abdulai is facing multiple allegations of sexual abuse as Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High and Technical School.
