Legal Director Blocks Wontumi’s Lawyer, Vows Eternal Silence

By Gifty Boateng

A political earthquake has rocked the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the party’s own Legal Affairs Director, Gary Nimako, has declared war on Andy Appiah-Kubi, the lead counsel for the embattled Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi

Nimako, seething with rage, has vowed to never speak to Appiah-Kubi again, accusing the senior lawyer of a brazen act of betrayal and “disingenuous” falsehoods!

The explosive fallout stems from Appiah-Kubi’s claims that he was kept in the dark about an application for variation of Chairman Wontumi’s bail conditions. But Nimako isn’t having it! He’s calling Appiah-Kubi’s bluff, asserting he personally informed him about the court action, vehemently denying it stalled any process.

In a fiery interview on Asemp FM’s “Ekosii Sen” programme, Nimako revealed the ultimate act of disdain: he’s BLOCKED Appiah-Kubi’s phone number

“How do you throw this in the air to court disaffection for people who are genuinely helping?” Nimako fumed, his voice dripping with indignation. “It is not nice and it is not fair… If I have a meeting with you in confidence and you display this in public, I will not speak to you again so I have blocked his number”

The Bail Blame Game: Who’s Lying?

Nimako didn’t stop there. He meticulously picked apart Appiah-Kubi’s narrative, exposing what he claims are gaping holes in the story. According to Nimako, Appiah-Kubi’s eleventh-hour announcement of Bryan Acheampong as a surety was too late to meet the stringent bail conditions.

He lambasted Appiah-Kubi’s assertion that the court process stalled Wontumi’s release, clarifying that his application was a prayer for variation, not an injunction.

“EOCO cannot say that because that will be illegal,” Nimako declared.

“Variation application is not an injunction application. It is a prayer to the court that the bail condition is too harsh so look at it and vary it so we can meet it for his release.”

Nimako challenged Appiah-Kubi to explain why, if the conditions were met, Wontumi wasn’t released. “At 8pm were the documents inspected by the Lands Commission and who at Lands Commission was working at 8pm?” he questioned, hinting at the impossibility of securing necessary approvals late on a Friday.

“Disingenuous!” Nimako Roars

The Legal Affairs Director accused Appiah-Kubi of being “very disingenuous” for publicly blaming the variation application for the stalled bail.

He argued that it was simply impossible to get Lands Commission officials and EOCO to inspect and approve documents for a ¢50 million bail at 8 PM on a Friday.

“His presentation to me was very unfair,” Nimako stated, emphasizing his genuine intent to assist in the situation.

The Smoking Gun? Appiah-Kubi’s Own “Variation” Claim

Adding a bombshell to his exposé, Nimako revealed that his own checks showed Appiah-Kubi had granted an earlier interview to Joy News where he himself claimed to have filed the same variation process in court on that very Friday

“You will realize that he himself said that he has filed the variation application,” Nimako exposed, demanding “truthfulness” from his senior colleague.

The legal director concluded with a plea: “I pray chairman comes out today so that all this will end.”

The NPP now faces an internal legal firestorm, with two of its prominent legal minds locked in a bitter public feud. Will Chairman Wontumi’s bail saga be overshadowed by this explosive war of words? Only time will tell.
