Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo joined National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, Samira Bawumia and several MPs on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025, for the 13th Commemorative Adua honoring the late former Vice President Aliu Mahama.

Akufo-Addo described the ceremony as both solemn and painful, calling Mahama’s passing “a profound sadness” for all who worked alongside him. He recalled first meeting Mahama in the 1990s while helping build the NPP in Tamale, where Mahama’s home became a hub for party organizers — a place to strategize, share meals and find warmth in his hospitality.

That early bond, Akufo-Addo said, grew into a lasting friendship that continued through their years in government and beyond. He praised Mahama as a man of integrity, generosity and unwavering commitment to Ghana’s progress, noting that his character left a mark on every space he occupied.

Akufo-Addo thanked the Mahama family for inviting him to the remembrance, offering prayers and well-wishes to Farouk Mahama and his siblings. Honoring Aliu Mahama, he said, is a reminder of leadership defined by humility, service and principle — qualities he believes continue to inspire Ghana’s political tradition.
