The Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has disclosed that all those injured from the deadly stampede at the El Wak Sports Stadium on Wednesday will be given automatic places in the recruitment process.
He said this is a directive from President John Dramani Mahama as a way of compensating them.
Speaking to journalists after visiting some bereaved families on Friday, November 14, the Deputy Minister also indicated that the deceased will have their places in the exercise taken over by any relative provided that relative is fit to be enlisted into the Forces.
“Not only that, His Excellency the President has also directed that [for] all injured persons involved in this tragic incident, he has also given automatic qualification to them to be recruited into the Ghana Armed Forces at any point they recover and our health professionals assess their suitability to be with the Ghana Armed Forces.”
He said the president has also promised to help in the burial arrangements for the victims.
The six died following a surge in applicants for their physical screening at the military stadium Wednesday morning.
Several others injured were sent to the 37 Military Hospital, where they received emergency care.
The exercise has since been suspended in the Greater Accra Region until further notice.
