Asante Kotoko’s Morifing Donzo converted a penalty in the final minute of the first half to give the Porcupine Warriors a 1-0 win over Hearts of Oak in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.
The loss is the first for Hearts of Oak this season after a sterling run under Head Coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, who was facing a side he won the Premier League with twice.
The Phobians had drawn four and won four going into the postponed Matchday 5 encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium.
But Asante Kotoko, who have three outstanding games in the season due to their failed CAF Confederation Cup campaign, dominated play.
They missed a lot of chances in what is Ghana’s Super Clash with Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare keeping the ball from entering the net on several occasions.
However, Peter Amidu Acquah’s incursion into the penalty area saw him brought down with a minute from the break, leaving referee Reginald Collins Amoah with no option than to point to the penalty spot.
Donzo elected himself to convert to give the Porcupine Warriors what became the winner. It is his first goal this season.
Despite the 3 points, Asante Kotoko are 7th with 14 points while Hearts of Oak stay 5th with 16 points.
Kotoko will return to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for their Matchday 10 game against league leaders Aduana FC.
Before that, however, they will play Vision FC in the first of their three outstanding games on Wednesday.
