Asante Kotoko kept their unbeaten run in the Ghana Premier League after securing a 4-2 win at home over Karela United FC on Sunday.
It was a Matchday 8 encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and the Porcupine Warriors were playing in front of their home fans for the first time after their exit from the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.
Abdul Karim Zito’s side wasted no time as Hubert Gyau struck in the sixth minute to give the spectators all what they have wanted.
But a penalty awarded by referee Maxwell Hanso a few minutes later was converted by Bless Ege, who took his goal-scoring tally to four.
But Gyau responded with a thunderbolt just outside the penalty area to restore the lead for Asante Kotoko.
A well-timed header by Seth Kwadwo in the goal area in the 34th minute ensured that the Porcupine Warriors went into the break with their noses in front.
Peter Amidu Acquah made it 4-1 in the second half as protests by the opponents for referee Hanson to call a handball were waived.
Karela United pulled one back but it was too little too late as they lost in the six-goal thriller.
Asante Kotoko set the stage for their crucial encounter against archrivals Hearts of Oak, who went to Basake Holy Stars to clinch a 2-1 away win.
