The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North Constituency, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has categorically denied any act or omission that amounted to misconduct or obstruction of police duties.
He has offered his availability for any investigations into last Saturday’s incident at Hwidiem in the Ahafo Region.
This follows an invitation extended to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to aid investigations into the incident.
The vehicles of the Director of Operations for the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and the Chief of Hwidiem Zongo were vandalised.
The mob, said to have been instigated by the MP, threatened to set the Hwidiem Police Station ablaze.
But writing through his lawyers, the MP denies any involvement.
“His conduct on the material day was solely motivated by the desire to calm tensions and prevent a possible breakdown of public order,” lawyer Kwasi Gyamfi Boadu of Asomah-Cheremeh & Co stated.
The legal representatives assured that their client will willingly present himself on Monday at 4:00pm in keeping with his respect for lawful procedure and his willingness to support police investigations.
