Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara has said he will run for a third term in October’s general elections. The president was last week nominated by his party and said he would announce his decision later. The number of coronavirus cases in Africa has surpassed one-million, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University, but the continent appears so far to have been spared the worst of the pandemic. Half of the infections are in just one country, South Africa. There are still low levels of testing in most countries, meaning the rate of infections could be higher than reported. With 455 new cases confirmed across the country, Ghana’s Covid-19 total infections since the outbreak of the disease on Thursday, March 12 is 40,097. These are cases as of Tuesday, August 4 and reported between Wednesday, July 15 and Monday, August 3. Popular Nigerian televangelist TB Joshua says he is “waiting to hear from God” before resuming church services in the commercial hub of Lagos.
