Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara has won a controversial third term in office in an election boycotted by the opposition. He took 94% of the vote, even winning 99% in some of his strongholds. Turnout was put at almost 54%. The result has to be confirmed by the Constitutional Council. The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has blamed system failure for the locked-up funds of Menzgold customers. According to the lawyer, the Governor of Bank of Ghana should be trialed on this matter because the central bank came out with a release, stating that Menzgold doesn’t have a license to operate but didn’t come out with any better solution to the problem. The Deputy Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Constituency, Eric Saah, has written to the Constituency’s Chairman to announce his defection to the New Patriotic Party (NPP). “I write to inform you officially that I have lost interest in the NDC party and therefore tender my letter of resignation from the party,” he wrote. Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa George Ayisi-Boateng has noted that the infiltration of politicians in the recruitment process of security agencies has been contributing to the increase of robbery cases in the country.
