Mali’s ex-President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, who was ousted in a coup last month, has left the country. Mr Keïta, 75, has flown to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for medical treatment after suffering from a minor stroke, military officials said. The junta is currently in talks with opposition and civil society groups about a transition to civilian rule. A 38-year-old Tema-based suspected car snatcher, Alhassan Imrani, has been arrested by the Tamale Divisional Police Command at Banvim in the Tamale Metropolis. Ghana’s coronavirus deaths have seen three additional cases recorded. From the latest update released by the Disease Surveillance Department of the Ghana Health Service on Saturday, September 5, the number of deaths has risen from 280 to 283. With 43,693 recovered/discharged patients, the country’s active cases now stand at 801. Among these, 14 are in severe conditions while six are in critical conditions with three on ventilators. Resettlement communities and installations along the Volta Lake were fumigated and disinfected last week to contain the spread of Covid-19. The communities are in four districts, namely Fanteakwa North, Kwahu West, Kwahu South and Kwahu Afram Plains North, all in the Eastern Region. Apart from the environment, facilities such as basic schools, CHP centres and police posts were fumigated. The authorities in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali, have announced that people will be fined $10 (£7.50) for not wearing face masks in public or not wearing them properly.
