The government of Ghana has announced plans to reduce its share of the mining royalties from 80 percent to 70 percent, while doubling the community share from 10 percent to 20 percent. At a ceremony at Ayanfuri in the Upper Denkyira West district of the Central Region, a speech read on behalf of the president, minister-designate for Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu, said the 10 percent to the community will be given to the district assemblies to be used specifically for developing infrastructure in the mining communities. Ghanaian veterinary officers are unhappy with the failure of some countries within the West African sub-region to enforce the ban on slaughtering of donkeys. They are calling for an immediate adherence to the directive to halt the indiscriminate slaughtering to protect donkeys. Donkeys are used for farming activities and carting of goods in rural communities in the West African sub-region. Chief veterinary officers in the sub region have indicated the alarming rate at which donkeys are being slaughtered could deplete their number within two years. The committee would be chaired by Ken Amankwah with Deputy Chief of Staff,  Samuel A. Jinapor  as the Vice Chairman. Ghana’s parliament after vetting thirteen (13) ministerial nominees has approved eight (8) of them leaving out the Senior Minister designate, Yaw Osafo Maafo, Energy Minister designate, Boakye Agyarko and three others whose fate is yet to be known. Even before he is vetted and possibly approved to be a regional minister, President Akufo-Addo’s nominee for Brong Ahafo, Kweku Asomah Kyeremeh has been rejected by the chiefs of the Sunyani traditional council for ‘insulting’ them. The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) wants government to give them representation on the board of directors on a number of government agencies.
