The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) Tarkwa is collaborating with the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) to use mobile technology to help combat diseases and pests that affect cocoa production in Ghana. The mobile application dubbed COCOANET was developed by a group of students of UMaT to, among others, help farmers and field staff identify (diagnose) various diseases and pests which attack cocoa plants. The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has discredited reports suggesting that it is undertaking a recruitment exercise. The attention of Ghana Immigration Service, a news release on Tuesday, was drawn to the publications “on unauthorized websites and on social media” announcing ongoing recruitment of personnel by the GIS. “The GIS wishes to inform the general public that it has not embarked on any recruitment exercise. The Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced that following an appeal by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the King of Saudi Arabia, the Government of Saudi Arabia has agreed to assist Ghana in the construction of a medical university and 42 senior high schools. The medical university will be established in northern Ghana. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which would fund the construction of the medical school, would also provide funds for the construction of 42 senior high schools throughout Ghana to increase access to education for the youth, especially girls.
