The Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced that following an appeal by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the King of Saudi Arabia, the Government of Saudi Arabia has agreed to assist Ghana in the construction of a medical university and 42 senior high schools. The medical university will be established in northern Ghana. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which would fund the construction of the medical school, would also provide funds for the construction of 42 senior high schools throughout Ghana to increase access to education for the youth, especially girls. The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr James Oppong-Boanuh has interdicted two Police officers in connection with a missing service rifle under their custody. The two officers are Superintendent Mr Edward Tetteh, the Abokobi/Ayimensah District Commander and C/Inspector Christopher Bekor, the Akporman Manna station officer. A police statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, David Eklu, noted that the rifle went missing at the Akporman-Manna Police post which is under the Adenta Division. Two high yielding hybrid maize varieties have been introduced to farmers at a field show at Tinkong in the Eastern Region. The field show, which was organised by the Legacy Crop Improvement Centre (LCIC), a private foundation seed producing company was attended by seed and crop farmers from all over the country. At least 60 people have been killed and 70 injured in a fuel tanker explosion in Tanzania, police say. Pictures posted online show flaming wreckage scattered over a wide area and charred bodies lying on the ground. Police said people were trying to recover fuel from the vehicle, which had overturned on a major road some time earlier, when the blast happened.
