Beneficiaries of the National Youth Employment Agency (YEA) across the country have threatened to withdraw their services on Friday, June 16 should the government fail to pay them their allowances. Government through YEA announced the suspension of payment of allowances to over 60,000 beneficiaries to enable it audit the scheme’s payroll following the detection of fraudulent activities. Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah has expressed his desire to make himself available for selection for the senior national team, the Black Stars. Ghana’s Supreme Court has ordered the country’s Auditor General, to as a matter of urgency, surcharge all persons found to have misappropriated public funds. The court also ordered that where applicable, criminal action should be instituted against such persons who have been accused of misappropriation of state funds by the Attorney General. The four Russians and Ukranians arrested in the Ashanti Region for engaging in small scale mining without appropriate licences, have each been granted GHC200,000 by the Circuit Court in Accra. A number of officers of the Ghana Education Service (GES) who have attained the compulsory retirement age are still at their respective duty posts, the Service has revealed. The National Media Commission has suggested it will not sanction some three television stations which have been broadcasting pornographic contents. The Commission on Monday received complaint from two broadcasters against the three television stations – TV XYZ, Ice TV and Thunder TV – for showing pornographic films on their channel. Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson has lambasted Ghanaian businesses, branding them as stingy having failed to support her Glaucoma Foundation after making promises. The Yvonne Nelson Glaucoma Foundation (YNGF) was launched in 2010 in association with the Glaucoma Association of Ghana to educate the public on the causes, treatment and prevention of the disease, among other objectives.
