A gorilla at the Philadelphia Zoo has given birth to a healthy baby after a difficult labor that required medical techniques typically used for delivering humans. A keeper noticed 17-year-old Kira had gone into labor on Thursday. Gorilla labor is typically very quick, but by Friday, it had not progressed and she seemed unwell. Concerned about the health of Kira and her baby, the zoo brought in a team comprised of both veterinarians and doctors more accustomed to treating humans – with incredible results. Attackers have opened fire at the Iranian parliament and Ayatollah Khomeini’s mausoleum in the capital, Tehran, causing a number of casualties. Heavy gunfire could be heard on videos filmed from outside parliament, and there are reports that a security guard has been killed. At the mausoleum several people were injured, and at least one suicide bomber died. The so-called Islamic State group (IS) has claimed it carried out the attacks. It did not provide any evidence. The Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) have been asked to quickly put their acts together in order not to jeopardise the future of 228 candidates in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) who could not write the first two papers. Government is to bail out viable but struggling companies in the country, President of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nana Dr Appiagyei Dankawoso II has revealed. Smallholder farmers at Akrofuom in the Obuasi municipality of Ashanti region will now have access to loans from the Akrofuom Teachers Co-operative Credit Union to enhance their farming activities. The teacher credit union has resolved to assist farmers and other Small and Medium Enterprises to increase productivity and ensure food security. Ghanaian actor John Dumelo has hailed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for posthumously promoting the military officer who was murdered in broad daylight at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region. Even before Ghana gets into its election season, the National Democratic Congress is expressing fears of a possible rigging of the 2020 general elections, citing plans by Nana Akufo-Addo to get Ghanaians outside the country to vote as the basis. Plans are underway by the government to construct an airstrip at Ataabadze in the Central Region, Aviation Minister Ms Cecilia Abena Dapaah has revealed.
