President Akufo-Addo’s nominee for the Bawku West District Chief Executive post, Mrs Victoria Ayamba, was on Saturday given a massive endorsement by the assembly members despite earlier protest against her nomination. Of the 49 assembly members who voted in the confirmation election, 35 representing 71 percent, endorsed her with only 14 against. An acute shortage of medicines has hit infirmaries of Prisons across the Ashanti Region, Chaplin of the Kumas Central Prison, Rev. Canon Paa Kwesi Ansah, has revealed. The situation, which he said has been frequent, is affecting healthcare delivery to inmates of prisons in the region. He blamed the shortage on insufficient budgetary allocation from the government. A criminal defense lawyer, Martin Kpebu, is advocating the fading out of police prosecutors in the cities to rural communities. He explained that there cannot be development in the judicial system when persons who are not lawyers serve as prosecutors in court. Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Mustapha Ussif, has pledged to ensure that the scheme’s Agriculture Project is supported to enable it to contribute to the Planting for Food and Jobs Policy. Two people have been confirmed dead and seven others injured in a renewed violent chieftaincy confrontation in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region. Residents of Tsetsekasum community in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District of the Central Region have fled the community to seek refuge in neighbouring communities following attack on them. A protracted land dispute has led to the burning of houses including the palace of the Chief of Tsetsekasum by some members the feuding faction in the area on May 7.
