Writers and poets who wish to take part in the second edition of the Ghana Writers Awards could do so from April 14 to Sunday, May 14, 2017. Five literary genres comprising Short Story, Spoken Word, Poetry, Literature Blog, and Topic-Given Poetry contest are the categories in the second edition. President Akufo Addo says the bill on the setting up of a Special Prosecutor would be presented to parliament when the house resumes from recess. This according to the president would ensure that due process is followed in the setting up of the office of the Special Prosecutor who would solely be handling issues of corruption and judgment debt cases. The Ghana United Nations Students and Youth Association (GUNSA) says it has been devastated by reports of wanton destruction of natural resources and the environment by illegal small scale miners, otherwise known as galamsey operators across the country.  according to the association, the seeming inaction by relevant state institutions is worrying and aggravating a disaster waiting to occur. North Korea has warned the US not to take provocative action in the region, saying it is “ready to hit back with nuclear attacks”. The comments came as North Korea marked the 105th anniversary of the birth of its founding president, Kim Il-sung. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has lauded steps taken by government to recover the country from it’s economic doldrums, describing these steps as promising. Telecom giant, MTN Ghana, has issued notice to its Mobile Money customers asking them to follow through some steps to be exempted from receiving interest on their mobile money account if they so wish. MTN Mobile Money is a fast, simple, convenient, secure and affordable way of transferring money, making payments and doing other transactions using a mobile phone.
