Police in Ghana’s Ashanti Region have foiled a planned highway robbery after gunning down three suspected armed robbers during an intelligence-led operation along the Anwiankwanta–Obuasi Highway, authorities said. The Ashanti South Regional Police Command said the incident occurred on 24 December 2025 when officers intercepted a gang that had converged in a bush between Anwiankwanta and the Jacobu junction to carry out the planned attack. Ghana’s Tema Oil Refinery has resumed crude oil refining operations after several years of inactivity, marking a significant milestone in efforts to revitalise the country’s downstream petroleum sector, the company said in a statement issued on Friday. The resumption follows the successful completion of major turnaround maintenance works on the refinery’s Crude Distillation Unit, carried out between 1 August and 30 October 2025.
