Ghana is working to secure a remotely located facility to be used as quarantine centre for novel coronavirus (covid-19) cases. Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu told parliamentarians Wednesday that a quarantine centre has already been established in the country. “Another remotely located 100-bed capacity facility is being secured for the purpose of quarantine for eligible persons,” he announced, and assured the facility will be ready for use in two weeks from now. The findings of an inquest into the death of a mentally ill Ghanaian in the UK indicates that the deceased died from dehydration, malnutrition and hypothermia “in plain sight” at an immigration centre. The 31-year-old Prince Kwabena Fosu’s death was partly due to “gross failure” by agencies at the centre, the jury at West London Coroner’s Court said. One person who was trapped in a mining pit at Ekorso in the Atewa West District of the Eastern Region on Monday has died. He was among three other illegal miners, popularly known as ‘galamseyers’, who were trapped in an old mining site by Metahauson Mining Company, Police in the area say the three had gone there to engage in galamsey.
