The Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa has interdicted the Upper West Regional Director of Education, Duncan Nsor. Officials of three political parties have walked out of a technical meeting with the Electoral Commission (EC) on the back of disagreement over compilation of a new voters’ register for the December general elections. The Chief Executive of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA),Hayford Attah-Krufi, has called for support in its bid to increase coverage to the informal sector. “Eighty per cent of working population working for themselves, and since pensions is for everyone, they must come on board,” he said. Mr Attah-Krufi made the comment when some senior management staff of the Authority paid a courtesy call on the management of Media General in Accra. The Chinese man who was declared wanted by the Police for allegedly killing his compatriot at Asankragwa in the Western Region has been arrested by the Ghana Immigration Service. Wei Yanwei was arrested in the late Tuesday at a hideout at Adiembra, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region through an intelligence led operation, the Ghana Immigration said in a statement Wednesday. The Member of Parliament for Abetifi who served as a Minister of State at the National Security Ministry, has from February 13 been re-assigned to the Interior Ministry, where he will serve as a Minister of State, a statement issued by the Presidency Wednesday announced. The Ghana Meteorological Agency is warning of fire outbreaks in across the country on the back of heightened outburst of the harmattan this week. The harmattan on Wednesday, February 12 engulfed Ghana, creating a dry and hazy atmosphere with drastic visibility particularly in the mornings and evenings. It is the fourth outburst for the 2019/2020 harmattan season. The introduction of improved security features into the administration of the Defective Vehicle (DV) number plate system by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) this year has led to a significant improvement in the revenue performance of the authority. Whereas the DVLA generated less than GH¢4 million from the sale of 15,544 DV plates for the whole of last year, it generated GH¢6 million from selling 25,000 upgraded DV plates between January 2 and February 7, this year, representing an increase of more than 60 per cent over the 2019 collection.
