Mr Alex Amankwah in charge of Specific Learning Disorders at the Ghana Education Service has revealed that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) accepts oral responses from students unable to write due to disability. He said provisions have been made to accommodate students with special educational needs in examinations to enable them compete with their counterparts without disabilities. A legal practitioner, Bobby Banson believes the scandal surrounding the missing of about 500 excavators from illegal miners has exposed the president’s nakedness. Parliament on Friday declined a request to set up a committee to investigate a request by Rev John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South, to probe the Airbus bribery scandal. Airbus, an European aircraft manufacturer, is alleged to have paid bribes to some government officials of Ghana when it sold three military aircraft, in 2011 and 2015, and Rev Fordjour, in a statement to the House, said the scandal discredited the name of Ghana. A serving soldier who had bouts of sex with his nine year old daughter until she attained the age of 15 has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in hard labour by an Accra Circuit Court. Sergeant Eric Asare-Mante is said to have taken advantage of the victim any time he shaved her pubic hair and threatened to truncate her education should she tell anyone about her ordeal. Director of Research and Policy at the Artisanal and Small Scale Mining Africa Network (ASMAN) Edward Akuoku has expressed skepticism about government’s strategy of fighting illegal mining, popularly referred to as “galamsey”. The government in the wake of incessant illegal mining activities implemented a framework to streamline and sanitize the sector.
