An Accra Circuit Court, on Monday, fined a driver, Isaac Cudjoe, 250 penalty units ( equivalent to GH¢3,000.00) for stealing a travelling bag containing items valued at GH¢35,610.00, from his passenger. In default, Cudjoe, would serve 24 months in prison. Cudjoe pleaded guilty to the offence, thus he was convicted on his own plea. After his conviction, the Court, presided over by Mrs Susana Eduful, deferred his sentence and remanded him into police custody. Zoomlion Ghana Limited has served notice it will appeal the decision of the Accra High Court dismissing a case that challenged the validity of surcharges issued by the Auditor General against the waste management firm. “Much as Zoomlion welcomes the decision, it should be noted that the company is clothed with the right to seek a review of the High Court’s decision and will proceed to take steps it deems fit based on the counsel of its Lawyers upon studying the ruling,” it said in a statement Monday. Hundreds of hospital workers in Hong Kong have gone on strike, demanding the border with mainland China be completely closed to reduce the risk of the coronavirus spreading. Hong Kong has suspended cross-border rail and ferry services, but health workers want a total border closure. Authorities say closing the border completely would go against advice from the World Health Organization. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has referred the Airbus bribery scandal which fingered the government of Ghana to the Special Prosecutor, tasking him to investigate the matter. On January 31, Ghana was cited as one of five countries in which global aerospace group, Airbus SE, allegedly bribed or promised payments to senior officials in exchange for business favours between 2009 and 2015, according to the UK’s Serious Fraud Office. Doctors and other health professionals in Ghana trained five years ago to respond to Ebola cases are being asked to immediately regroup and prepare to handle any possible case of coronavirus, which has been declared a global health emergency.
