The Bawku West District Assembly in the Upper East region has for the second time in two weeks failed to elect a presiding member after two rounds of voting. Police investigators in the Garu District of Upper East Region have rejected a 6,540-cedi bribe offered for a motor bike theft case to be dropped. Kofi Awuni, who has been arrested, was said to have offered the money to investigators handling the case on Thursday. The new coronavirus has been declared a global emergency by the World Health Organization, as the outbreak continues to spread outside China. “The main reason for this declaration is not what is happening in China but what is happening in other countries,” said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The concern is that it could spread to countries with weaker health systems. The death toll now stands at 170 people in China. Google is temporarily closing all of its offices in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan as a result of the coronavirus. Other tech giants, including Amazon and Microsoft, have also taken action to protect staff from infection.
