The Bono Regional Police Command has recovered five firearms following an intelligence-led operation targeting a notorious robbery gang in the region.
According to a press release from the Police Public Affairs Unit, intelligence indicated that the gang had planned an attack on traders travelling along the Dormaa–Gonokrom highway on February 11, 2026. Surveillance teams were deployed immediately to prevent the intended robbery.
In the early hours of February 12, police officers advancing near a parked motorbike came under gunfire from nearby bushes. Police returned fire, and a search at daybreak revealed one male suspect dead with an AK47 rifle beside him.

A subsequent search uncovered a sack containing additional weapons and ammunition, including two Baikal single-barrel guns, a pump-action gun, a Beretta pistol with three rounds of 9mm ammunition, 34 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one AK47 loaded with 11 rounds plus 10 additional rounds, and 39 rounds of BB cartridges. Other items recovered included a dagger, a mobile phone, a Honda motorbike, a black mask, and a set of talisman.
The deceased’s body has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for identification and autopsy.
The Bono Regional Police Command assured the public that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining gang members. Authorities have called on residents to provide credible information that could assist in bringing criminals to justice.
Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer for the Bono Regional Police, said the operation underscores the commitment of police to enhance safety and security in the region.
Police warned that the command will continue to act decisively against criminal networks and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and order.
