Bunkurugu District in the Northern Region has been under curfew for the past three years as a result of protracted chieftaincy disputes between the Jamong and the Jafack families.
The chieftaincy disputes have led to loss of properties and about 28 lives.
A blood burial ceremony has been held to end the conflict though there is said to exist mistrust among feuding parties.
The Paramount Chief of Bunkurugu, Alhaji Abuba Nasumong, has pledged that both families will now co-exist without any unrest and called for cooperation from the families.
He was speaking to TV3 in an interview after a peace dialogue organized by West Africa Peace Network (WANEP) and funded by USAID in Tamale.
Alhaji Nasumong, who is of the Jafack family, said a committee will be established between the two families to address any problem that may confront the families to easy solution instead of resorting to war.
He said the mandate of the committee will be incorporated in the bye-laws of the traditional council to give them the necessary recognition to operate without any hindrances.
He commended WANEP for the initiative to bring the families together to iron out their differences, adding that war between the families will never occur again.
An opinion leader of the Jamomg family, Zack Jayour Katouk, said for the fact that both families have come together to discuss peace gives him optimism that peace has come to stay among the two feuding families.
Highlighting the causes of the conflicts in the area in his presentation, the acting Chief Secretary of Bunkurugu, Sarkoaha Biipah, observed that any misunderstanding between individuals within both families generate into armed war between the families and called for such things to be dealt with as isolated cases.
Madam Felicia Kampito of the Jafok family called for the re-introduction of the Tindandi Jam Festival, which brought both families together, including those in Togo.
She also suggested participations of both families in funerals and out-dooring ceremonies to enhance their relations.
