The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has provided an update on a disturbing video circulating on social media showing the physical abuse of a young girl by several women.
In a statement dated January 4, 2026, the ministry said the case was investigated by the Labadi Police on December 31, 2025, leading to the arrest and charging of the suspects involved. The accused are expected to be arraigned before court within the week. The ministry added that the Accra Regional Office of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) has been tasked with supervising the case to ensure due process and adherence to established legal procedures.
The ministry strongly condemned all forms of violence against children, stressing that no circumstance justifies the physical or emotional abuse of a child. It described such acts as serious violations of Ghana’s Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560), and the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732).
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy on child abuse, the ministry warned that individuals found guilty of harming children would face the full rigour of the law. It emphasised that violence against children would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The statement underscored that safeguarding the rights and welfare of children is a shared responsibility, calling on families, communities and the wider public to remain vigilant and committed to protecting children from harm. The ministry urged citizens to play an active role in ensuring that every child grows up in a safe and supportive environment.
Members of the public were encouraged to report suspected cases of abuse through the Domestic Violence Call Centre on 0800-111-222, the Ministry’s Helpline of Hope Call Centres on 0800-800-800 or 0800-900-900, or at the nearest police station.
The ministry said it would continue to work with law enforcement and child protection agencies to ensure justice for victims and accountability for perpetrators.
