The Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, has written to the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) to inform the Chair of the vacancy of the Kpandai seat.
This follows the service of the Tamale High Court order on Parliament.
On Monday, November 24, the Court, presided over by His Lordship Justice Emmanuel Brew-Plange declared the parliamentary results of the December 7, 2024 polls as null and void, ordering a rerun within 30 days.
This did not go down well with the Minority in Parliament, who raised the matter on the floor of the House.
Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin later ruled that the member, Matthew Nyindam, can attend parliamentary proceedings until Monday, December 1, within which an appeal is likely to be filed.
A letter sighted by NewsFile GH and written on Thursday, December 4 by the Clerk to Parliament notified the EC as per Article 112(5), as amended, of the 1992 Constitution.
The EC is expected to announce a date for the rerun.
However, lawyers of the MP have served notice of appealing the Tamale High Court’s ruling but concerned about the failure of a written ruling to be made available as promised in court by the judge.
