The Commonwealth Secretary-General, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, on Monday, January 27, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Ghana High Commission, where she was warmly received by Ghana’s High Commissioner, H.E. Mrs. Sabah Zita Benson.
During the visit, the Secretary-General praised the achievements of Mrs. Benson since she assumed office, commending her open-door leadership style and what she described as impactful stewardship of the Mission. She noted that the High Commissioner’s approach had strengthened engagement with the Ghanaian community and enhanced the Mission’s effectiveness.
In her response, Mrs. Benson expressed appreciation for the visit and lauded Hon. Botchwey for her leadership at the helm of the Commonwealth. She described the Secretary-General’s work in promoting unity, cooperation and shared democratic values among member states as both visionary and inspiring.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the two leaders to exchange views on the evolving role of the Commonwealth in a changing global landscape and the importance of collaboration among member countries. Both reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening partnerships that support good governance, development and multilateral cooperation.
The visit concluded with a renewed pledge by both parties to work closely together in advancing the ideals of the Commonwealth of Nations and promoting a more inclusive and progressive international community.
