Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health (GCNH) has written to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on the subject ‘Feedback Time To Do More’, obviously related to the fight against coronavirus.

It is an open letter signed by the National Chairman of GCNH, Dr Gabriel Gbiel Benarkuu, chiefly calling for an Executive Instrument (EI) for the observation of the prevention protocols a must for all.

Letter reproduced below:

OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA

From: Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health (GCNH).

To: H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana.

Subject: Feedback Time To Do More.

Your Excellency, we bring you warm greetings from the GCNH.

We are very much aware of what is happening on the ground; at least we have actively, 382 NGOs/CBOs working in various degrees of humanitarian services in communities, districts, regional and at national levels.

We know you have been very busy in the last 3 days justifying why you lifted the partial lockdown in the Greater Accra and Kumasi.

Your Excellency, “it is a man who take bitter pills”.

Sir, you already told us (Ghanaians), “we know how to fix the economy, but we cannot bring back lives taken away”. This is the time to double our efforts.

The Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health (GCNH), an umbrella civil society organisations have contributed so much to Ghana’s preparedness, response, containment of the COVID-19 pandemic through Research and Dissemination, Advocacy, Policy Influencing, Sharing of Reliefs Items and Support to the Ghana Health Service at various levels. We are bringing to your attention once again some critical issues for your consideration, to be reinforced by the National Response Team.

Feedback to Government:

Mr. President, feedback is a gift, the more you take and internalise, the better you become excellent in your endeavour.

Today, we give you yet another 3 feedbacks as follows:

  1. There is a greater need for Ghana to establishment a National Control Programme on Coronavirus (COVID-19); NCPC.
  2. Research confirms globally that, successfully countries used multi-faceted strategies during and after locked downs that breaks the chain of infections by vigorously and consciously practicing:
  3. a) Social distancing;
  4. b) Hand hygiene;
  5. c) Hand sanitizer;
  6. d) Cough etiquette;
  7. e) Clean everyday environment; and
  8. f) Face mask usage.

Please could you consider and pass another Executive Instrument (EI) on this 6-in-1 strategy and ensure that state agencies enforce the laws with the necessary logistics?

  1. Strengthening of the Mental Health Authority (MHA) could greatly reverse the adverse effects of various degrees of mental illness and stigmatization (against communities, affected families and people affected) most Ghanaians are going through because of covid-19.

We have attached a Research Report for your perusal.

Thank sir. God Bless our Homeland Ghana!

By Gabriel Gbiel Benarkuu, (PhD), National Chairman (GCNH)
