In an auspicious ceremony held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Yusif Sulemana, MP, officially commenced the construction of a state-of-the-art two-storey office complex for the Savannah Regional Lands Commission.
The groundbreaking event marked a crucial milestone in the efforts to establish a permanent and well-equipped office space that will significantly augment the operational capabilities of the Commission within the region.
Hon. Sulemana, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, expressed concerns over the inadequate and inappropriate working conditions currently faced by the Commission in its temporary office.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Minister underscored the pivotal role of the Lands Commission, mandated by the 1992 Constitution, in mediating land disputes and ensuring proper land documentation to prevent conflicts. He emphasized that the establishment of this new office complex is essential for the Commission to effectively carry out its responsibilities.
Furthermore, Hon. Sulemana highlighted the critical need for digitizing the land administration system, citing a funding requirement of $165 million for this transformation. He disclosed plans for collaboration with the private sector to secure the necessary resources to streamline land registrations and enhance operational efficiency.
The Deputy Minister issued a stern warning to the appointed contractor to uphold high standards of workmanship throughout the project. He affirmed his commitment to closely monitor progress on-site and assured commendation or consequence based on the quality of work delivered.
Surv. Adu Nsafuah, the Deputy Executive Secretary overseeing operations at the Lands Commission, elaborated on the organization’s strategic plan to establish dedicated office complexes across all regions.
Currently, only four out of the 16 administrative regions possess their own office facilities, with the remainder facing financial constraints due to reliance on rented spaces.
The Savannah Regional Lands Commission’s office complex signifies a significant step towards rectifying this imbalance and ensuring a conducive work environment for employees, as stated by Mr. Nsafuah. He affirmed the Commission’s unwavering commitment to completing the project within the stipulated 12-month timeframe.
While preparations for office constructions in the remaining regions are yet to be announced by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the contract for this groundbreaking project has been awarded to CK Engineering Ltd.
Dignitaries such as the Savannah Regional Minister, the West Gonja Municipal Chief Executive, prominent traditional leaders, stakeholders, and dedicated staff of the Savannah Regional Lands Commission graced the momentous occasion with their presence.
