Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, has reportedly taken no offence to comments made by rival aspirants during the party’s internal campaign, according to his aide, Dennis Miracles Aboagye.
In an interview on ChannelOne TV, Dennis emphasised that the remarks, though critical, were not intended to be personally harmful and were part of standard political competition. “Dr. Bawumia acknowledges that once he enters a contest, people may make statements not necessarily rooted in truth. Some believe the best way to outpace a competitor is to throw dirt, but he takes none of it to heart,” Dennis said.
He noted that many criticisms were strategic, aimed at influencing delegates rather than reflecting genuine grievances. Citing the 2024 elections, Dennis highlighted claims that Dr. Bawumia had conceded too early, a point opponents used to question his judgment. “Yesterday, all the others conceded before the Electoral Commission declared. It shows the earlier remarks were not truly meant,” he added.
The aide underscored that Dr. Bawumia remains focused on leading the party effectively, irrespective of past criticisms. Dennis also extended a message of reconciliation and unity, stating, “If during the campaign we may have said or done something that affected anyone, we apologise. We are one family, one blood, one people. Let us work together to execute our common goal.”
This statement signals Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to internal cohesion within the NPP as the party prepares for the upcoming national elections, highlighting a focus on collective purpose over lingering divisions from the primary contest.
