The Electoral Commission (EC) has disqualified 11 aspirants from the December 7, 2024, presidential election following a comprehensive vetting process.
Among the notable disqualified candidates are Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Janet Nabla of the People’s National Party (PNP).
The EC’s announcement, made in a press release issued on Friday, September 20, 2024, follows the conclusion of the nomination period, which ran from September 9 to September 13, 2024. The EC conducted a thorough examination of the submitted Nomination Forms to ensure compliance with legal and constitutional requirements.
Other disqualified candidates include Nana Stephens Adjepong, Paul Perkoh, James Kwesi Oppong, John Enyonam Kwakwu Kpikpi, Dr. Samuel Sampong Ankrah, and Nii Amu Darko. Also, Samuel Apea-Danquah, Desmond Abrefah, and Kofi Asamoah Siaw of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) were disqualified.
The EC noted that the disqualifications were based on various discrepancies found in the candidates’ documentation, such as errors in financial records and non-compliance with citizenship verification.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all candidates meet the necessary standards to maintain the integrity of the election process.
Despite these disqualifications, several other candidates successfully completed the nomination process and are now qualified to contest in the 2024 presidential election. Among them are the two major contenders, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
