The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) has set Tuesday, March 3 as date for the by-election in the Ayawaso East Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
This has been necessitated by the untimely demise of Member of Parliament (MP) Naser Toure Mahama.
The four-time lawmaker passed away on Sunday, January 4, rendering his seat empty.
The EC has, thus, scheduled Monday, February 9 to Wednesday, February 11 for the receipt of nominations at its Ayawaso East Municipal office in North Ridge.
Interested candidates have been directed to download the forms from the EC’s website.
“A prospective candidate may personally deliver or cause to be delivered on his/her behalf, by either the Proposer or Seconder of his/her nomination, the completed nomination forms to the Returning Officer at the Ayawaso East Municipal Office of the Commission on the dates and times stated above,” the EC said in a release on Friday, January 16.
“The nomination forms for each candidate shall be witnessed by the signature or mark of two registered voters as Proposer and Seconder, and supported by eighteen other registered voters in the Constituency as assenting to the Nominations,” it further directed.
