The police have kicked off a sweeping investigation into the perplexing case of missing containers at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), as revealed by Energy and Green Transition Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor.

In a bold move, law enforcement has formally reached out to the interim Managing Director (MD) of ECG to obtain crucial documents and information to aid in their search efforts.

A letter signed by Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Kudjo Aboagye, sent to MD Julius Kpekpena, highlights the focus on potential crimes such as abetment, conspiracy, forgery, and theft surrounding the missing containers allegedly orchestrated by a group posing as contractors linked to Mint Logistics Limited and Dawards Bond Limited.

Reportedly centered at the Atas Terminal in the Tema Port, the police have requested specific container entry declaration numbers associated with the 23rd and 31st December, 2024 suspected movements.

Furthermore, the investigation calls for documentation on the contractual relationships between ECG and the implicated logistics companies spanning from 2018 to the last quarter of 2024.

In a bid to unravel the intricacies of the case, the police have sought additional information including waybills and receiving notes relevant to the containers under scrutiny.

The inquiry, triggered by the revelation of 1,346 missing containers out of the total 2,500, came to light after Minister Jinapor disclosed inconsistencies in figures regarding cables stored at the Tema Port. Subsequently, a committee was established to dig into the matter, leading to the shocking discovery of the unaccounted containers.

As discussions abound and accusations fly, the Minister has vowed to hold all responsible parties accountable, with arrests already made and investigations ongoing involving individuals from various nationalities implicated in the scandal.
