The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Friday, November 14 stormed an apartment to arrest 10 individuals, all Nigerians, engaged in prohibited cyber activities.
The arrested include three suspects and seven victims, aged between 17 and 30 years.
The operation was under the ‘Operation LIFELINE’ of EOCO.
The seven victims had been trafficked to Ghana with promises of juicy employment only to be subjected to harsh and exploitative conditions, compelling most of them to engage in online fraud schemes and cyber activities.
In a news release on Monday, EOCO encouraged the public to use its hotlines to report suspicious activities not only to its office but to other law enforcement agencies.
“Landlords are also urged to conduct due diligence when renting out their properties, especially to foreign nationals,” EOCO warned, adding: “Individuals involved in such illegal activities are strongly warned to desist as the Office remains fully committed to pursuing and apprehending offenders.”
