Sammy Crabbe, former National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticised the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, over his handling of remarks made by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng describing the NPP as a “fake party.”
Speaking in a Zoom interview with journalist Bernard Avle, Crabbe argued that Frimpong Kodua overstepped his authority by effectively pronouncing the outcome of internal disciplinary procedures before they had begun.
“As a general secretary, you represent the party; you do not pronounce the end or the outcome,” Crabbe said. “You don’t say you’re sending the man to the National Disciplinary Committee or NEC for expulsion and then instruct that he be expelled. That contradicts due process.”
Crabbe pointed to a letter allegedly issued by Frimpong Kodua, which he said directed the disciplinary committee to expel Prof. Frimpong-Boateng. The former vice chairman noted that the functions of the disciplinary committee, according to the party constitution, include investigating complaints, conducting impartial inquiries, and reporting conclusions, not executing pre-determined outcomes.
“This validates what the man was talking about,” Crabbe added, referring to Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s concerns.
The controversy has sparked debate within the NPP over adherence to internal justice procedures and the proper role of party officials in handling disciplinary matters.
