The Office of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has strongly denied claims that he intends to approach President John Dramani Mahama to secure safe passage for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
The clarification follows a publication by the Herald Newspaper, which was subsequently reported by other media outlets, suggesting that Akufo-Addo was “considering approaching President Mahama to seek assurances of the safe passage for Ofori-Atta.”
In a statement released Monday, the former President’s office described the reports as “utterly false” and “a total fabrication.” The statement emphasized that Akufo-Addo has neither contemplated nor made any request, directly or indirectly, to President Mahama or his representatives regarding the matter.
“As a firm believer in democratic tenets, Nana Akufo-Addo’s fidelity to the Rule of Law has never been in question,” the statement read.
While acknowledging that Ofori-Atta, his cousin and former Finance Minister during Akufo-Addo’s administration, is of personal concern, the office clarified that this concern does not extend to interference with legal processes.
The statement further demanded that the original publications issue a formal correction or reproduce the rejoinder in accordance with the former President’s rights.
This announcement seeks to set the record straight, reinforcing Akufo-Addo’s commitment to democratic principles, transparency, and respect for the rule of law, while dispelling circulating rumors linking him to any intervention on behalf of Ofori-Atta.
