Ghanaian music icon Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy, has formally launched the Livingstone Legacy Education Fund, a scholarship initiative designed to support academically gifted but financially constrained students. The launch marks the culmination of years of private philanthropy by Stonebwoy, who has quietly supported fellow students during his time at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
In a documentary detailing the fund’s origins revealed that Stonebwoy regularly paid tuition and exam fees for classmates facing financial difficulties. “It wasn’t charity, it was solidarity,” the artist explained, emphasising that helping his peers was a natural response to shared struggles. Former classmates and professors recalled his generosity and humility, highlighting his dedication to ensuring students could complete their education despite economic hardships.
Prof. Lord Mawuko Yevugah, associate professor at GIMPA, praised Stonebwoy for formalising his charitable efforts. “He has institutionalised a process for supporting students, ensuring fairness and sustainability,” Prof. Yevugah said. Former classmates, including Jeremy Yin and Francis Akischaab, recounted how Stonebwoy intervened personally, often covering fees, providing guidance, and offering mentorship.
Dr. Yaw Appiah Marfo, Acting Dean of the School of Public Service and Governance, noted Stonebwoy’s diligence in academics and his commitment to supporting others while balancing a burgeoning music career. Similarly, GIMPA’s Assistant Registrar, Bubuama Benjamin Kweku, underscored the artist’s passion for creating structured opportunities for needy students.
Stonebwoy’s wife, Dr. Louisa Satekla, emphasised that the fund reflects a long-held commitment to education and community development. “He always said we need an intervention for those who genuinely need help. That day is now,” she said.
Stonebwoy called on philanthropists, corporations, and institutions to partner with the Livingstone Legacy Education Fund to expand its reach and impact. “This mission goes beyond my capacity. Together, we can touch more lives and support students across Ghana,” he said.
The Livingstone Legacy Education Fund aims to provide sustainable, long-term support for students, transforming private acts of kindness into a structured, collective effort to promote education and social development across the country.
This initiative not only solidifies Stonebwoy’s reputation as a global music ambassador but also highlights his enduring commitment to social responsibility and national development
