Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi has spoken publicly about his life after football and the potential opportunities that remain for him on the African football stage.
In a recent interview granted on Joy AM Show – Jan 6, 2026, Nyantakyi, who is now part of the legal team for NPP flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyepong, described the transition from football management as “a face in life,” noting that he had to prepare himself for a career beyond the sport.
When asked if he could have become president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Nyantakyi acknowledged the possibility. “I was the first vice president of CAF, the next most senior football official on the continent. If the president had not been there, I probably would have been the most favoured candidate,” he said, referring to his tenure prior to exiting CAF in 2016.
Nyantakyi emphasised that he is not bitter about missed opportunities, noting, “Life goes on. There are many opportunities in life for every individual.” He explained that his path into football management was unexpected, having originally trained as a lawyer and worked in banking before moving into football administration.
The former GFA president also stressed that anyone who works hard has the potential to reach CAF’s top positions in the future. “It’s still possible,” he said, highlighting his continued optimism for Ghanaian representation in African football leadership.
Nyantakyi’s reflections mark a rare public discussion on his post-football career and suggest he remains engaged in shaping the country’s sporting and political spheres.
