The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a strong warning to heads of senior high and technical schools against the unauthorised registration of students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In an immediate release dated Thursday, Jan. 8, the GES said it had observed instances where some school heads and officials were registering Form Two students and private candidates for the WASSCE, often in exchange for fees.
Management stated unequivocally that heads of schools are authorised to register only Form Three students whose academic progression from Year One to Year Three can be fully verified in the school’s official database. Any registration outside this category, including that of Form Two students or private candidates, has been declared strictly prohibited.
“The registration of Form Two students or private candidates by any school official constitutes misconduct and an abuse of office,” the statement said.
The GES cautioned that any head or school official found engaging in such practices, including the collection of monies for unauthorised registration, will face severe sanctions in line with existing GES and West African Examinations Council (WAEC) regulations.
Management stressed that the directive would be enforced without exception, underscoring its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the WASSCE and ensuring that only eligible candidates are presented for the examination.
The Service urged all school heads and administrators to adhere strictly to the approved registration procedures, warning that disciplinary action would be taken against offenders.
The WASSCE is Ghana’s primary external examination for senior high school students and serves as a key requirement for tertiary education and employment.
The statement was signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Education Service, who urged all school heads and administrators to comply fully with approved examination registration procedures.
