A senior lecturer at the Ghana Technology University College, Dr. Kester Quist-Aphetsi, says Ghana has what it takes to tackle cyber fraud and its related crimes in the country.
He is optimistic that proper collaboration with the right agencies will do the trick for Ghana in that regard.
He observed an assessment conducted by the World Bank and the Global Cyber Security Capacity Centre of the Oxford University has shown vulnerabilities in Ghana’s cyber security, hence the need to consolidate efforts in fighting it.
The digitization and introduction of e-services in Ghana, he noted, have also exposed the country and people to possible cyber-attacks.
Speaking at the launch of a cyber-security service which seeks to educate mostly youth in fighting cyber fraud in the country, Dr Kester Quist-Aphetsi said that the move will ensure divergent views are solicited to fight the canker.
“Leaders must collaborate and work with our security agencies within the country to solve this problem, we don’t have to wait till things get worse before we solve it”, he said.
Chief Executive Officer of Aventura Technologies Ghana, Emmanuel Sekyere Asiedu noted the move will go a long way to address Ghana’s cyber security issues and create jobs. He noted it is important to incorporate cyber security in the digitization of the economy.
“Why we have decided to do this is because as a country we are moving on digital economy as the road map to digital economy we thought that we must build and incorporate cyber security as part of digitizing our economy”
For his part, the Chief Executive of Triple Cycle, Ofer Paz, lauded government’s efforts in tackling cyber fraud in the country.
He added that his outfit will offer the necessary support to government and other stakeholders in dealing with the menace.
