Ghana marked a historic diplomatic milestone on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, as its High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Her Excellency Sabah Zita Benson, formally presented her Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Charles III at St James’s Palace.
The ceremony underscored the long-standing bilateral and historic ties between Ghana and the United Kingdom, while also signalling a significant moment in Ghana’s diplomatic history. Benson is the first woman appointed as Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK since independence in 1957.
Her presentation also carried wider historical significance, as she became the first High Commissioner to be formally received by a British monarch at St James’s Palace since 1910. The last such presentation took place during the reign of King Edward VII.
The event was attended by senior palace officials and members of the diplomatic corps, reflecting the importance of Ghana–UK relations. Benson’s appointment has been welcomed as a symbol of progress, continuity and renewed engagement between the two nations.
