The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has fully operationalised a new electronic tracking system for Ghanaian passports, allowing applicants to monitor the status of their applications in real time.
Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister for Foreign Affairs, announced that the system enables applicants to see whether their passports have been approved, printed, dispatched to courier companies, or are in transit. Users can also track how close their documents are to delivery.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to delivering ordinary passport applications within 15 days. Expedited applications, which require faster processing, are pledged to be completed within seven days. “We have kept that pledge,” Hon. Ablakwa stated, emphasising the ministry’s adherence to set timelines.
However, the minister noted that applications may be delayed if there are discrepancies or documentation issues. Cases flagged for credibility concerns, incomplete information, or verification of citizenship may be put on hold until resolved.
The introduction of the e-tracking system aims to improve transparency, reduce uncertainty, and enhance public confidence in the passport issuance process. Ghanaian citizens are encouraged to use the portal to monitor their applications and report any issues directly to the ministry.
The system represents a key step in modernising government services and providing efficient, accountable service to citizens.
