Ghanaian security agencies have arrested 53 Nigerian nationals following coordinated intelligence-led operations targeting suspected cybercrime centres in parts of the Greater Accra Region, authorities said.
Over a 48-hour period, intelligence gathered by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) identified several locations allegedly being used for cybercrime activities in East Legon Hills, Afienya, Kwabenya, Weija and Tuba. The intelligence indicated that young men were being exploited and coerced by ringleaders to engage in online criminal activities.
Acting on the information, a joint task force comprising operatives from National Security Operations, the CSA, the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters and the police SWAT unit conducted simultaneous raids on Jan. 16 and 17, 2026.
Nine Nigerian nationals were arrested as suspects believed to be organisers of the operations, while 44 others were rescued and described as victims. The victims were found in apartments operating laptop computers, officials said.
Searches at the locations led to the seizure of 52 mobile phones, 62 laptop computers and two pump-action guns. Arrests were made across the five areas, including 17 in Tuba and 11 in Afienya.
All 53 individuals have been profiled and handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for safekeeping and further investigations. Some suspects from earlier operations have been transferred to Nigerian authorities through INTERPOL, while others are facing prosecution in Ghana.
Authorities warned foreign nationals to verify recruitment claims and said protecting Ghana’s international cyber image remains “non-negotiable.”
